A General Charitable Trust

Reaching Education To All, Without Discrimination

The Shanti Upendra Foundation for Development Initiatives (SUFDI) is a general charitable trust founded by Professor Chandra Bhushan Sharma in the memory of Shanti Sharma D/O Sheetal Prasad Singh of Hurrakh, Dist. Begusarai and Upendra Sharma S/O Anugrah Prasad Singh of Moldiar Tola, Mokama Dist. Patna. Both Shanti Sharma and Upendra Sharma had great compassion for the less privileged specially the girls. Upendra Sharma dropped his college education during the 1942 Freedom Movement and quoted arrest on the call given by Gandhi Ji and Shanti Sharma had to live in hiding, with her mother, brother and sisters, as a young girl as her father Sheetal Prasad also quoted arrest and went to jail in 1942. Both desired to give back to society specially to those who missed on education because of poverty or difficult family circumstances. The SUFDI Trust is created through the initial corpus fund donated by Upendra Sharma, and named his youngest son Chandra Bhushan Sharma as the Chief Trustee. SUFDI aspires to work in all areas of education which can reach quality education to all, especially the less privileged. The Trust gives scholarships, awards, educational support in different forms as well as organize Memorial Lecture in the memory of Shanti Sharma. SUFDI has been awarding scholarship to needy students through funds donated by Aparna Sharma grand-daughter of Shanti Sharma in the memory of her parents Ajay Kumar and Sushama Sharma of Majhaul Dist. Begusari; the SushamAjay Scholarship. As and when the Trust is able to get funds it will venture into new areas.
